Kathmandu, March 18

Vice-chairperson of the CPN Maoist Center, Krishna Bahadur Mahara, has been arrested.

Inspector General of Police Basanta Bahadur Kunwar told Onlinekhabar that Mahara was arrested in Kapilvastu and is being transported to Kathmandu.

A high-level inquiry commission, established to investigate gold smuggling, had recommended prosecution against Mahara. The Ministry of Home Affairs directed the police to take appropriate action based on this recommendation.

Previously, the commission had also taken a statement from Krishna Bahadur Mahara. Additionally, his son, Rahul Mahara, is in custody awaiting trial in the case involving gold smuggling through electronic cigarettes (Vape).
